Joané Beukes, BMus Hons

Flute teacher and workbook manager

Joané Beukes, BMus Hons, Flute teacher and workbook manager

Joané Beukes grew up in a small town in the Free State where the love for music and the arts was bigger than its opportunities. She took piano lessons from a young age and this was where her love for music began. In 2011 her journey at Ladybird, an international art academy, started. She consequently started with flute lessons three years later. This opened opportunities for her in the junior and senior ensembles. Without a doubt, the flute became her primary instrument. In 2017 and 2018, Ladybird appointed Joané to teach flute, piano, recorder and music theory. Furthermore, she was responsible for managing and directing the ensembles, and accompanied the chamber choir. In 2022, she graduated from the North-West University in Potchefstroom with the BMus (Baccalaureus Musicae) degree, where she specialised in flute with André Oosthuizen and music education with Prof Mignon van Vreden. She then decided to study BMus Hons (Baccalaureus Musicae Honours) in 2023 at Stellenbosch University with Flute repertoire as her specialist area and Dr Bridget Rennie-Salonen as supervisor. This enabled her to gain adept knowledge in music education and flute repertoire. One of Joané’s future goals and dreams is to study a master’s degree with flute as her main subject.

It was through music that Joané was able to overcome her own fears and emotional blocks. Although she was still young at that time, music ignited the dream of being a “Ladybird” in someone else’s life. Joané seeks to provide children the opportunity to grow musically, emotionally, and mentally through music education. She aims to enable each of her learners to feel free to find and cultivate their own voice in music, and in consequence, the courage to explore new horizons.
